More on DMCA abuse

Dec. 2nd, 2009 | 11:34 am

http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/blog/mfreed/inaccurate-copyright-enforcement-questionable-best-practices-and-bittorrent-specificatio

The gist of the article is that a researcher at Princeton has received over 100 cease and desist orders from 3rd party investigators.  Of course this is despite the fact that they are not hosting or sharing any copyrighted files at all.  A few of the letters even went so far as to say. ""we can sue you for lots of money, but if you pay us this nominal settlement (which will be less than the cost of retaining a lawyer yourself), we'll disappear."  I'm no lawyer, but that sounds like racketeering/extortion to me...

Downtown Honolulu PSA: Purse Snatcher warning

Nov. 23rd, 2009 | 02:25 pm

Heard that there is a purse snatcher (maybe more than one) operating on Downtown.  over the last 5 days, several women reported having their purses stolen, and a few others were knocked down by the man.  All descriptions say he's a white male about 6' tall.

If you have a jail broken iPhone READ THIS: serious security threat

Nov. 23rd, 2009 | 11:07 am

The short: Someone wrote a worm bot that can infect your iPhone and try to steal personal information.  This one can even steal your bank info, if you are an ING user.

Stop begging/bbribing the government to betray its constituents so you can make a profit!

Written by: Kyle McSlarrow, head of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (cable's trade and lobbying group in Washington)

Basically he's saying how great it would be if the FCC closed the "Analog hole, because that's the only way that new content could possibly come to the living room any faster.

Sorry sir, but your arguments are full of hole bigger than your DRM.
1) just because the TVs will still work the way they did before doesn't mean that these new gov regulations can't be used to limit content more and more.
2) Apple didn't beg the government for anit-consumer policy when they did their DRM
3) none of these policies or technologies will prevent your content from being pirated.  that is a fact.  You only serve to act against your own customers for ZERO end advantage.

When it comes down to it, try selling the stuff w/o and government intervention.  If it's a good product, people will buy it.

Computer Geek Opinions wanted

Nov. 18th, 2009 | 12:36 pm

I need to replace my Laptop and desktop computers.  Both are over 5 years old and can no longer keep up with the stuff i do.  Mostly it's my phoography that has the biggest computer hits.  Photoshop runs decently for me, but Lightroom is a bear.  Originally, i was thinking about getting a Core i& desktop and a cheap laptop for when i need to be mobile or when i travel.

Now my thinking is i'll just get a laptop, since even a "weak" laptop is way more powerful than what i currently have (5 year old single core CPU). and use a NAS to store my photos.  I should be able to use LR still as long as the database and the previews are still on the laptop internally.  I know there are a lot of people who use LR with laptops and external USB hard drives.  I am figuring that a 4 TB NAS will be enough for my photos, Anime, and "other videos."  I can probably map the NAS as a drive letter on the laptop if i want to have it look more local as well.

I'm looking a Lenovo X200 Tablet.  It looks like it will be enough to do what i want and still be easy to carry around.  Not small as a netbook, but it will play HD video and should run LR alright (i'm guessing).  It's also got a nice battery life.

Just wondering what people think.  Any ideas/suggestions for a NAS?  been looking at the seagate black armour.

More Intellectual Property Oppression

Because it traced (and we all know how reliable their traces are) some piracy to a certain wifi hotspot, the MPAA shut down the whole hot spot used by as many as 100 people in a small town... including their police department.

Hollywood on self serving protectionist laws:

Nov. 10th, 2009 | 10:57 am

According to Director Steven Soderbergh, the Matrix never would have been filmed today since it would be pirated so much.
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2009/11/hollywoods-antipiracy-charm-offensive-has-fcc-in-crosshairs.ars?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss

I call Bullshit!  someone gave me a pirated copy of the matrix way back when... you know what?  I still saw the movie itn eh theaters.. Twice.  Take a look at Transformers or Spirerman3.  I'm quite sure those were pirated many time,s but they also had incredibly high gross earnings.  the studios need to stop being such money grubbing whores attempting to bribe policitans into raping the constitution to line their pockets using numbers half pulled out of thin air.

Stealing a Quote...

Nov. 5th, 2009 | 06:10 pm

Sometimes i feel like that...

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure...
I make mistakes, I am out of control,
and at times hard to handle.
But if you can't handle me at my worst,
Then you sure AS HELL don't deserve me at my best.

-Marilyn Monroe

Thanks for everyone who puts up with me.

Two other Halloween items:

Nov. 3rd, 2009 | 01:04 am

1) one of the highlights from Halloween this year: Dancing with my friend Crystal at Fusions and right next to us was Harry Potter and the Mad Hatter making out.
2) A 2nd rant: Girl in costume (sometime a generic slutty one) being escorted by a guy who wasn't just in costume, but obviously did not want to be there. WTF... if you don't want to be there, just let her go out with her girl friends... or if you are that girl, don't drag him out, you just might enough yourself more.

Honestly, i was finding Waikiki this year kind of uninspiring.  Don't know if it was because i was tired, because i was really wishing i was in Hollywood, or just the costumes this year were not as impressive as others.  Too many times i foudn myself thinking, "oh look another slutty school girl... nice ass... but yawn."  almost like they got all their costumes from the same three shops.

Photo Dump. I've been prolific...

First, my bedroom studio was good for a real run i felt. Crystal was kind enough to come over and let me try some ideas out. This was my first foray into implied nudes.

Next, Wilma and I rented a Hotel room. Partially it was to get away and partially it was to take some pictures for her secret project. We also opened the room up to some of our closer friends, so they could take pics. Jolene and Erin showed up on different nights.

Mary had a co-worker she wanted to shoot and invited me and JB along for the ride. There were a bunch other models that were invited, but no one else was free.

One thing i think i def need to get next is a grey card so i can do proper white balance.
